The Fraser Car Club enjoyed a splendid afternoon on Sunday. The weather was perfect, the sun was out, with a slight chill in the air to remind you that Winter is on the way.
We met up in the sunny North Shore, in Auckland. The Auckland Fraser Car Club rep, Gary, had us well organised. We were given clip boards, with directions, maps and instructions. We paid $2 and as we left the start line, in our cars, we guessed our finish time. All watches and mobile phones were put in a sealed bag, so we had no chance of knowing what time it was.
Knowing that we were going to travel 47 kilometres, on a range of roads with 50km, 80km and 100km speed limits the DMOFSR team guessed 52 minutes and 45 seconds and set off. We travelled around the stunning Bays of the North Shore before heading out towards the countryside. Looping around, then heading along State-highway 17 until we reached Puhoi. The trip was great, we were happy with our imagined time, although there was one area that had a 30km speed limit that we hadn't accounted for.
Upon arriving in Puhoi we felt that the time we had taken wasn't nearly long enough, until we saw our score. Gary had arrived early and set up his computer with a spreadsheet that showed each team's guess, actual time and average. We were 1 minute 22 seconds out from our guess, not too bad. Des and April who travelled in their Cobra took out the winning prize. Their guess was only 22 seconds out from their actual time, fantastic co-driving skills there.
We headed over to the Puhoi Pub for a well deserved drink and a chat. Can't think of a better way to spend a Sunday afternoon. Cheers to all that joined in the fun. And to Gary, these runs are FANTASTIC!
