Speed on Tweed is a classic car street sprint held in the town of Murwillumbah on the border of NSW and Queensland.
This year the event was held in conjunction with the WRC who also used the track as special stage. There was a fantastic atmosphere with over 30,000 people there over the weekend. There were an amazing range of cars with everything from a DeHavilland powered Special built in 1930 to a Type 37/35B Bugatti. There were also a great range of 7 style cars as well as many more purpose built hillclimb/street sprint single seaters.
This year after relaxing the entry criteria there were 182 entrants with two Frasers one of which was the car that Neil drove in the '94 Targa Tasmania now owned by Brendon and the other the very nice 2ZZ powered car of Will Charlton. With close racing in every class both Frasers did a great job with good finishes in a class that was filled with many purpose built race cars. Will ended up being one of the first road legal cars home.
The WRC cars provided a fantastic end to the first two days of racing, those cars/drivers are just mind blowing with the way they make it around the corners.
Thanks to Will for your great hospitality and for inviting me over. Also thank you to all those I managed to touch base with during my short stay. It was an enjoyable weekend with many great cars and an outstanding event.
