It was a blast! I had an absolute ball, so much so that I thought I would report on the Winter Night Run from my experience.
Just to bore you with some finer details, Scott and I had our first 'monthly date night' booked in for Tuesday 30th. Well, low and behold Scott decided to plan a night run (as we love driving the Frasers at night), he magically pulled a date from the calendar and I had a 'date night' with 11 other men and one other woman – I must say, that ratio is pretty impressive.
Personally, I LOVE the Frasers, I enjoy catching up with every member of the Fraser Family, and most importantly I have the best time in the passenger seat (ladies are not to drive on 'date night' – old fashioned I know, but it is a rule that I made up so I get to drink).
So, we turned up at the Fraser Factory at 6:30pm, after numerous 'is the run still on, the weather looks a little iffy' phonecalls. There is one other car waiting… Yes!
I put on another three layers of clothes, fussed about with my camera and tried to greet the cars as they arrived. It is always a buzz to first hear the cars and then see them pull in. Each car is so different. Beautifully unique.
At 7pm on the dot the V6 'Brrrrrm' arrived and that made 7 Frasers in total, a sterling turnout for a week night with 'iffy' weather. Ron, the Fraser Car Club president, had captured some images of us before our depature and then headed home to his awaiting dinner, in his car that has a roof, heater and a radio. The 7 Frasers drive off like there's no tomorrow, towards the moonlight.
Arriving in Kaukapakapa, after a sedate drive around the countryside, we noticed that the local pub was open. We all parked up, took off a few layers and entered the pub for a drink. I need to mention the friendly and welcoming service, and Jazz the pub dog who pulled up a stool beside us – I kid you not.
Scott enjoyed his nonalcoholic beverage, because he was driving and I had a nice strong drink (vodka, lime and lemonade for those interested) because I was passenger, due to it being 'date night'. We all chatted amongst ourselves. JED even told me a few stories, one that involved hunting in the deep South.
We left the pub and the majority of the group headed towards Woodcocks Road, which is a very fun, twisty route to take. Steve and Catherine were leading the group in their 3SGTE at this stage. The night was complete with 5 Frasers making a little bit of noise through the new tunnel, which I captured on video, but the recorded sound quality didn't do it justice.
Thank you to all those involved and to the others who had hoped to be there, but didn't quite make it. To me, this is what dreams are made of. I'm not too sure what we'll be doing for our July date night, but I am keen to repeat this and even make it a monthly event.
